The Art of Possibility

Possibility: a chance that something might exist, happen, or be true.

Hi there,

Last Summer I added "Meet Brooke Castillo and be on her Podcast" to my list of impossible goals. I had no idea how I would do it, but that didn't matter to me. I had belief that it would happen and added it anyway.

This last week I was able to cross that goal off my list. I was invited as a guest on The Life Coach School Podcast along with three other incredible Latina Life Coaches. We talked about overcoming obstacles and this was truly a must listen episode.

I told Brooke how I had been working on impossible goals long before I even knew what they were. I shared my story from being a 15 and 17 year old teen mom who was always told who she was, but never who she could be.

Some of my impossible goals were to earn a high school diploma and join the military. When I wrote them down they both seemed so far away. I had no idea how I would complete them since I dropped out of high school in 10th grade and at 20lbs overweight, I was nowhere near physically ready for the military.

I did however, have belief.

I remember crying just thinking of the possibility of what could be in my life. I laid in bed and cried as I imagined crossing the stage as a graduate and what it would feel like to be in an Army uniform with my name stitched on it in bold black letters.

Imagining what could be became one of my favorite things to do. That simple exercise grew my belief in an extraordinary way. Allowing myself to sit in that possibility that day propelled me towards having it in real life.

The possibility was so vivid that I could feel the energy my future self had. I wanted that feeling, that energy, that kind of confidence so badly. I hung on, borrowed from my future self.

It wasn't easy. I had to work twice, sometimes three times harder than my peers. I didn't care. I knew that doubt had no room in my life. I had two choices: to go for it even when I was scared or stay in the same place for the rest of my life. I chose growth and possibility over fear and insecurity.

And when I did that, possibility chose me too.

I had what people would call "overnight success," but it actually took me five years. During that time I earned my HS Diploma, 3 Associate Degrees, 1 Bachelor Degree, 1 Master Degree, enlisted in the Army and then Commissioned as an Army Officer ranked in the top 10% of my peers across the US.

But with all that success, there also came tragedy and heartache.

In the midst of all of this, my sons and I suffered through a tremendous loss. My husband James died in a motorcycle accident. That kind of grief is something that can either send you into years of stillness or move you to keep going out of the most unconditional kind of love.

Love, that still moves you even when it's no longer physically present, and that's what I decided to choose when I was presented with the circumstance of death and grief. I still chose me and my dreams. I never let them die.

I tell you all of this because this is what I believe The Art of Possibility is.

It's believing in your most beloved desires and dreams EVEN WHEN.

Even when you have no evidence of being successful. Even when you are presented with stop signs and red lights all around you.

And instead of giving up and turning around to go home, you find another route. You make your own plan. You keep trying with your head held high. You don't listen to what other people say you are capable of. You decide to feel discomfort and know that feelings are the currency to your dreams.

And most of all, you believe that it's all possible. For you, of course you.

So I close this with asking you, "What is possible for you?" What is it that you want? What has been on your "someday one day" list that you are ready to break possibility open into? Find it now, set the intention and get ready,

Because you can have it all.
